While training supplements may be the leading products for most of these companies, the fat burning supplements are a close second. The market for them is absolutely huge with customers eager to buy into the ‘magic pill’ idea. This is never more obvious than after the holidays with both men and women keen to lose those 10 or 20 pounds they piled on over Christmas.
Supplement companies know this and many of them will flood the market with “low-cost” versions of a fat burner. The papers, magazines, internet and even TV ads in January are all pushing the latest and greatest fat burning supplements on the market.
There are at least 5 different types of these supplements and each tackles the problem in a different way.
Types Of Supplements
Carb Blockers – This type of supplement mainly uses white kidney bean extract to bind to carbohydrates so in theory at least, they don’t all get digested by the body when eaten.
Thermogenic – Thermogenics are used to increase your body’s internal temperature. This rise in internal temperature will increase your resting heart rate and you will feel warmer and this will cause your caloric burn will rise a bit.
Appetite Suppressants – Many people have a hard time staving off cravings which leads to cheating and gorging on foods that have low nutrition but high calories. These type of fat burning supplements will ussually have hoodia in the ingedients which is supposed to help suppress your appetite.
Fat Blockers – Fat blockers will use chitosan. This is similar to a carb blocker in that the chitosan will bind to fat to keep the body from digesting it.
Thyroid Regulators – Our thyroid helps regulate our energy levels and metabolism. If the thyroid gets out of whack, your metabolism can slow down and you can feel fatigued. A thyroid regulator can be the perfect fat burner for anyone that has these symptoms (common in older adults).
Personally I recommend to all my private clients that they stay away from them because they aren’t necessary. At best they may have some effect as a placebo and at worst, filling you with who knows what! If you really want to lose weight then it’s probably time to stop looking for the easier option and commit yourself to a low carb, high protein diet and you will be surprised to find it’s not as hard as you thought.
Nobody ever went hungry on ham and eggs for breakfast, half a chicken with salad for lunch and a nice steak for dinner but because all these and plenty of other meals are low in carbs, so you will lose weight AND you won’t need any fat burning supplements to help you succeed either!
